Screen size: Canvas is best viewed at a minimum of 800x600, which is the average size of a notebook computer. If you want to view Canvas on a device with a smaller screen, we recommend using one of the Canvas mobile apps fitting your role.

Supported Image Formats: Canvas will accept the following image files
JPEG - Joint Photographic Experts Group
GIF - Graphics Interchange Format
BMP - Windows Bitmap
TIFF* - Adobe Systems
PNG - Portable Network Graphics

* While TIFF files can be uploaded to file storage, they will not display within any area of Canvas.

The Learn LaunchPad is a student portal that allows users to access the Student Information System (Genius SIS), the Learning Management System (Canvas LMS), and other education resources.
If you are an Employee:
Log in with your COH credentials like you would sign into your computer workstation, except your username should be followed by @coh.org. For example, the username for Joe Doe would look like jdoe@coh.org.

For Friends of City of Hope:
The login page for Genius includes a link for you to register as a new user (external to City of Hope). You can provide your credentials along with additional information to complete your profile. The login page also includes a link to establish a new password in case you forgot it.
A course request form is available online. Please fill it out and submit it for review. The information you provide will assist us with getting you started with creating your course.

Learner FAQs on Using Genius

Check out these topics and helpful tutorials to get you started as a learner using the Genius Student Information System.

To enroll in a course you first need to register as a Genius user. For City of Hope employees, log in using your network id and password. You will then be prompted to complete a short registration page.

For external users {insert instructions}

After you have successfully logged in you will be able to browse a course catalog. If the course Instructor has set the course to Self-Registration you will find the course in the catalog. Select the course and proceed to check out.

*Please note: Some courses will require Instructor approval. In this instance the Instructor will receive an email to approve or deny your request. You will receive an electronic notification once you are successfully enrolled.

To verify you have successfully registered for a course log into Genius. From the Learner Dashboard you should see any Active courses, or Current enrollments along with Completed courses. {Insert current dashboard image with indicators of filled out sections described above}

To print a certificate login to your Genius account to view the Dashboard. Under the Completed Courses module on the right-hand side of your dashboard, click on any of the courses you have already completed.

This will immediately generate a Certificate of Completion for the course you select with the following details: {Insert updated image w/ completed courses and indicators}

  • Your name
  • Course Title
  • Date of Completion

Issuing your transcripts in Genius is simple. The Genius dashboard includes a Menu on the left side of the screen where you can find a link that reads Print Transcript. Click on this link to generate a PDF with a course-by-course breakdown that includes:

  • Your name
  • Email
  • Institution Name
  • Enrollment period
  • Courses taken
  • Grades
  • Credits received
  • Date in which the transcript was generated

  1. The Genius dashboard includes a link to Withdraw from Course. Select the link to get to the Withdrawal interface.
  2. Request a withdrawal by clicking on the Request new drop link on the upper left-hand side of your screen.
  3. A floating window will appear. This window allows you to make two choices regarding your drop. The first allows you to select the course you want to drop. The second allows you to select the reason why you are dropping the course. Adding a reason provides valuable feedback to the Instructor and the Affiliation Manager.
  4. Once you have requested a withdrawal by following the steps above, your request is sent to the Instructor and Affiliation Manager (verify this to be the case) and you can leave this screen.

No. It requires an approval, and you may check the status of your withrawal requests. The Course Withdrawal screen makes it possible for you to check if a request you made earlier to withdraw from a course has been approved. This screen will show any withdrawal requests you have made.

If that status of your withdrawal request is listed as APPROVED, your request has been completed. If the status is not approved, you can edit your withdrawal request to change the reason and resubmit for approval.

Canvas Resources

the letter E Canvas is City of Hope’s education software platform, or Learning Management System (LMS), powered by Instructure. This web-based course management platform has features that include a robust interface, an intelligent course calendar, course notifications, easy online submission for assignments, and easy-to-use communication tools. It also features a simple dashboard that provides a comprehensive overview of all your classes, and mobile apps for both Android and iOS.

Canvas can be used to enrich face to face or online instruction and enhance the City of Hope educational experience by providing high-quality instruction and scholar achievement.

Yes. Once you have registered for a course you can go directlty to canvas.cityofhope.org to access your courses. If you need to log in again, Canvas will lead you back here (Learn LaunchPad) to log in based one which service authorizes your credentials.
